The 2009 Boys spent their Labor Day weekend in Chicago in the Chicago Cup tournament. This was an opportunity for the kids to play very high level competition from out of the area. This group of kids has been playing U11 since they were 9 year old's and this year will be playing up again in the U12 league. So the team really wanted to see how they compared to teams their actual age in the region.
Their 1st game on Saturday was against Lake Forest, the team was nervous and excited. As they settled in, they found their footing and won 6-2. In their 2nd match of the day they took on Trevian and won 9-2. Their match on Sunday against FC Unites was a very strange game. Their were several unique situations that lead to the team losing 3-6. However they did enough over their 3 games to advance to the championship anyway.
In the championship match, they faced SC Wave, which has a very good team and strong club. Coach Birder is quoted as saying "It was the best game I have seen the team play". The boys won 3-1 securing a successful weekend and reward for their efforts. This group of boys are very dedicated and show up to training's year round. Playing in older leagues is challenging on a weekly basis, so getting a chance to play teams their own age was a thrill for the parents and kids.
Congratulations and good luck in your future matches!
